How To Clean and Season an Old, Rusty Cast Iron Skillet
Cast iron skillets have to be the best cooking utensil yet. The heat builds over time effectively using less energy to get the same result. They are also perfect campfire pans for meals out in the woods. You don’t have to worry about scratching them or breaking them either. However they will hurt your feet if you drop them.
They do need maintenance every so often. The pores in the metal will take on the flavors of whatever comes onto it. Meat, vegetables, bleach and dish soap as well. Just a potato, salt and olive oil to clean and re-season your pan. I do this every month and it works just perfect.
