This is a perfect way to get your chickens a great start. Both the actual chickens and your children. This will give them some hands on experience and responsibilities. Another thing is that it is really easy to make. A plastic container is the best for being able to make adjustments to the box.
Repurposing a clear lockable container, cut two holes into it. One for the heat lamp and another for air flow. I used shingle wiring for roofs to cover each hole using nuts and bolts to keep it in place. This worked phenomenally. All that is needed is some of the hamster bedding you can get from the pet store. Now you have very happy chicks, both inside the box and outside.
