Well, I think that reusing wine bottle in gardens is a fantastic idea, glass is non toxic and should last forever if not broken. Glass trumps plastic bottles by a million percent in my books.

Now, my second thought is who on earth drinks that much wine to have all these bottles. Then I remember I drink at least 2 bottles a week, so thats 8 wine bottles a month, they will soon add up if you save them in the garage.
